A production is a formal document package delivered in response to a discovery request. Hintyr's Export Wizard provides a guided, multi-step process for building production sets with documents, load files, manifests, and optional reports.

Large exports will be split into multiple archives of this size.

What a document production includes

When you create a production, the Export Wizard assembles a downloadable archive with the components you select. A typical package can include any combination of:

  • Documents - The files themselves, either in their original format, with Bates numbers applied, or with both Bates numbers and redactions.
  • Load file - A metadata file with one row per document, containing fields such as Bates number, file name, date, custodian, and file type.
  • Manifest - A summary document listing every file in the production along with key properties.
  • Extracted text - Plain-text versions of each document, stored in a TEXT folder alongside the production documents.
  • Reports - Optional analytics and summary reports about the production contents.

How to access the production Export Wizard

Open the case you want to produce documents from. Click the case menu and select Production Export. The Export Wizard opens as a dialog with sections for each configuration step. Work through each section, then submit to begin processing the production in the background.

You can also use the AI agent to create productions with natural language commands. The agent builds the export criteria and submits it on your behalf.

Document production export workflow

The end-to-end production process in Hintyr follows these stages:

  • Select documents - Use the criteria builder to filter files by metadata, dates, tags, custodians, or file type.
  • Configure options - Name the production, choose a document format, set batch size, and enable load file, manifest, and extracted text options.
  • Apply Bates numbering - Optionally stamp documents with sequential Bates numbers using your preferred formatting.
  • Set custodian handling - Choose how custodians are assigned to the exported files.
  • Grant discovery access - Invite external users to view and download the production through the Discovery Portal.
  • Download - Once processing completes, download the production as a ZIP archive or upload it to cloud storage.

Original files are not modified during production export

Hintyr generates new copies of your documents with the selected Bates stamps, redactions, and formatting applied. Your original files stay exactly as they were uploaded. This non-destructive approach means you can create multiple productions from the same case without altering source documents.

Frequently asked questions

What document formats are available for productions?
Hintyr offers three formats: Bates Numbered and Redacted (applies both stamps and redactions), Bates Numbered No Redactions (stamps only), and Original Documents (no modifications). The format you choose should align with the form of production specified in the FRCP Rule 34 request or agreed upon by the parties.
Can I create multiple productions from the same case?
Yes. You can create as many productions as needed from a single case. Each production is independent, and your original files are never modified.
What happens after I submit the export?
Hintyr processes the production in the background. You can continue working in the case while it builds. Once complete, the production appears in your downloads panel ready for download.
Who can create productions?
Case members with editor or admin roles can create productions under FRCP Rule 34. Members with read-only access cannot access the Export Wizard.
