The Export Wizard has six sections: Query, Options, Bates, Custodians, Discovery Access, and Reports. Each one configures a different part of your production package. When you submit, Hintyr creates the export in the background.
Step 1: Query - Select documents for production export
The first section lets you define which documents to include. Use the criteria builder to add filter rules based on file type, date range, tags, custodians, and privilege status. Combine multiple rules with AND/OR logic to narrow your selection. A preview button shows how many documents match before you proceed.
If you leave the query section empty, all documents in the case are included. For detailed guidance on building filter criteria, see selecting documents.
Step 2: Options - Configure production export settings
The Options section is where you name the production, choose a document format, set the maximum archive size, and toggle which supplementary files to include. The Production Name field identifies the export in your downloads panel and file system. The Document Format dropdown offers three choices: Bates Numbered and Redacted, Bates Numbered No Redactions, and Original Documents. The batch size slider controls how large each ZIP archive can be before Hintyr splits the production into multiple downloads.
For a complete breakdown of every option, see export options.
Step 3: Bates - Apply Bates numbering to production documents
If your chosen document format includes Bates numbering, this section lets you configure the stamp. Toggle "Apply Bates numbers to exported documents" to enable it, then adjust the mode (page or document), position, prefix, suffix, starting index, padding digits, font, size, and color. Hintyr pulls smart defaults from any existing Bates configuration on the case.
For full details on each Bates setting, see Bates in exports.
Step 4: Custodians - Organize production by source
The Custodians section controls how custodian assignments are handled in the exported files. The Custodian Handling dropdown offers three modes: Do Not Modify Custodians (keeps existing assignments as-is), Set Custodian When Missing (assigns a custodian only to documents that do not already have one), and Set Custodian For All Documents (overrides all custodian assignments with your selection). When either of the latter two modes is selected, a custodian selector appears where you choose which custodians to apply.
Step 5: Discovery Access - Share the production export
The Discovery Access section lets you grant external users permission to view and download the production through the Discovery Portal. You can invite users by email and configure folder-level permissions controlling which production folders each user can access. This step is optional; you can skip it and grant access later from Case Settings.
Step 6: Reports - Include load files and manifests
The Reports section controls whether a load file and manifest are generated alongside the production documents. The load file is a delimited metadata file with one row per document. The manifest is a summary listing every file in the production. Both are useful for importing the production into other review platforms. For more details, see reports.
Submitting the production export
Once you've configured everything, click Create Export at the bottom. Hintyr validates your settings and starts processing in the background. Close the dialog and keep working. When the production is ready, it appears in your downloads panel with a Ready status badge.
