Maximum Archive Size

Large exports will be split into multiple archives of this size.

Production export name

The Production Name field identifies the export in your downloads panel and in generated archive file names. Pick something descriptive so you can tell productions apart. Names can be up to 100 characters. Common conventions include the set number or date, like "Production Set 1 - March 2026."

Document format for production export

The Document Format dropdown determines how your files are prepared for the production. Hintyr provides three options:

  • Bates Numbered and Redacted - Applies both Bates stamps and any redactions you have drawn on the documents. This is the standard format for formal discovery productions.
  • Bates Numbered No Redactions - Applies Bates stamps but does not include redactions. Useful when you need numbered documents for internal tracking without removing sensitive content.
  • Original Documents - Exports files exactly as they were uploaded, with no Bates stamps or redaction overlays. Use this when you need unmodified copies of the source files.

Maximum archive size for production batches

This slider controls the maximum size of each ZIP archive. If the total production exceeds this limit, Hintyr splits it into multiple archives. The range is 500 MB to 5 GB in 256 MB increments. Smaller batches download faster on slow connections; larger ones mean fewer separate archives to manage.

Include load file in production export

When enabled, Hintyr generates a delimited metadata file (load file) containing one row per document with columns for Bates number, file name, date, custodian, file type, and other metadata. Load files are commonly used to import productions into other review platforms. For more details, see reports.

Include privileged documents in production

This toggle controls whether documents marked with a privilege designation (Attorney-Client, Work Product, or both) are included in the production. When unchecked, privileged documents are excluded from the export to prevent inadvertent disclosure. When checked, they are included alongside non-privileged files. For email-specific privilege considerations, see email privilege.

Include manifest in production export

When enabled, Hintyr generates a manifest file that provides a high-level summary of every file in the production. The manifest includes file names, Bates ranges, page counts, and custodian assignments. It serves as a quick reference for both the producing and receiving parties to verify the contents of a production set.

Organize production export by custodian

When enabled, the production archive is organized into subdirectories named after each custodian. Documents are placed into the folder of their assigned custodian. This structure is commonly required by discovery orders and makes it easy for the receiving party to review documents by source. Documents without a custodian assignment are placed in a general folder.

Include extracted text in production export

When enabled, Hintyr includes a TEXT folder in the production archive containing plain-text versions of each document. These text files are generated from the extracted content of each source file and are commonly used for full-text search indexing in other review platforms.

Frequently asked questions

Which document format should I use for a formal production?
For most formal discovery productions under FRCP Rule 34, use "Bates Numbered and Redacted." This applies both sequential Bates stamps and any redactions you have drawn, which is the standard format expected by courts and opposing counsel.
What batch size should I choose?
The default of 2.5 GB works well for most productions. If recipients have bandwidth constraints, choose a smaller size. If you want fewer files to manage, choose the maximum 5 GB.
Can I change the production name after submitting?
No. The production name is set when you submit the export. If you need a different name, create a new production with the desired name.
What is the difference between the load file and the manifest?
The load file is a delimited metadata file with one row per document, designed for importing into review platforms. The manifest is a summary document listing all files in the production for quick reference.
