The Citations panel controls how the AI agent formats source references in its responses. Configure the enclosure style, display format, position inclusion, and bibliography options. A live preview updates as you change settings so you can see exactly how citations will appear.
Citation enclosure style
The Enclosure Style setting determines the characters that wrap each citation. Choose from:
- Parentheses - (Contract.pdf : page 5)
- Brackets - [Contract.pdf : page 5]
- Braces - {Contract.pdf : page 5}
- Quotes - "Contract.pdf : page 5"
- None - Contract.pdf : page 5 (no wrapping characters)
Citation display format
The Display Format controls what text represents each source document:
- File name - Uses the full file name (for example, Contract.pdf).
- Short reference - Uses a condensed reference label (for example, Smith Dep.).
- Numbered - Uses sequential integers (1, 2, 3...), useful when combined with a bibliography.
Citation position inclusion
The Position toggle controls whether citations include a page number or timestamp reference alongside the source name. When enabled, citations include ": page 5" or a similar position indicator. When disabled, only the source identifier appears.
Citation bibliography
The Bibliography toggle adds a bibliography section to AI agent responses. When enabled, a full list of cited sources appears at the end of each response. You can choose the ordering:
- Alphabetical - Sources sorted alphabetically by name.
- Order of appearance - Sources listed in the order they first appear in the response.
Bibliography is especially useful with the Numbered display format, where inline citations use integers and the bibliography provides the full source details.
Citation settings live preview
The preview box at the bottom of the panel shows a sample AI response with your current citation settings applied. It updates instantly as you change any option, so you can experiment with different configurations before saving.
