The AI agent includes AI citations in every document-backed response, pointing to specific documents and page numbers. Citations show up as clickable pill buttons that open the referenced document in the viewer. You can configure the citation format through Case Settings.
How AI citations appear
When the AI agent references a document, it inserts an AI citation pill right in the response text. Each pill is a clickable button showing the source file and page number. Click a pill, and the document viewer opens to the exact page cited. No need to hunt for the file yourself.
Here's how an AI citation pill looks inline with a response:
Clicking AI citations to verify sources
Every AI citation pill is clickable. When you click one, the document viewer opens the referenced file at the exact page cited. This lets you verify the AI agent'sfindings without digging through files on your own. One click takes you from the agent's answer to the source material. Large files may take a moment to load.
After reviewing the source, just head back to the AI agent panel and pick up where you left off. The document viewer and agent panel sit side by side, so you won't lose your place in either one.
AI citation formats
You can control what shows up inside each AI citation pill. Hintyr offers three format options, each with a different level of detail:
File name (default)
Shows the full file name and page number. Most descriptive at a glance.
Reference
Uses a short reference label instead of the file name. Compact and clean.
Integer
Uses sequential numbers that map to a bibliography. Most compact format.
AI citation enclosure styles
You can also choose how AI citations are wrapped. Hintyr supports several enclosure styles to match your team's preferences or internal style guides:
Parentheses (default)
Brackets
Braces
Quotes
None
To change the enclosure style, go to Case Settings and open the Citations panel. Your new style will apply to all future AI agent responses in the case.
Bibliography mode for AI citations
When you turn on bibliography mode, the AI agent adds a numbered bibliography section at the end of longer responses. Each inline AI citation maps to a numbered entry in thebibliography, which includes the full file name and page number. This format pairs especially well with the integer citation format.

Bibliography mode is optional and you can toggle it in Case Settings. Once it's on, it applies to all AI agent responses in the case. You can order entries alphabetically or by order of appearance. The bibliography uses the same clickable AI citations as the rest of the response.
Configuring AI citation settings
All AI citation settings live in the Case Settings panel. To get there, open the case menu in the toolbar and select Case Settings. Head to the Citations section, where you'll find controls for enclosure style, format, position display, and bibliography mode. For a full walkthrough of each setting, see Citation Settings.
Any changes you make apply to all future AI agent responses in the case. Previous responses keep their original formatting. Citation settings are per-case, so you can use different formats for different cases depending on what each matter requires.
AI citation settings are shared across all team members in the case. When one person updates the citation format, the change applies to everyone's AI agent responses going forward. That keeps things consistent across the team.
