The Discovery Portal is a secure document-sharing feature that lets you produce documents to opposing counsel, share files with co-counsel or experts, and receive uploads from external parties. Discovery users see a simplified interface and don't require an organization membership.
What the discovery portal does
Every Hintyr case includes a built-in Discovery Portal. When you need to share documents with someone outside your organization, invite them as a discovery user. They'll receive a secure link, sign in with any authenticated account, and gain access to only the tags you've authorized. All other case data -- AI chat, notes, redactions, and case settings -- stays hidden.
The portal handles document exchange scenarios common in litigation, regulatory investigations, and transactional due diligence. Whether you're producing documents to opposing counsel, receiving expert reports, or collaborating with co-counsel on a shared set of materials, the Discovery Portal gives you a controlled environment for that exchange.
Discovery portal use cases
- Producing to opposing counsel - Tag your production set, invite opposing counsel, and grant them View access to that tag. They see the best available version of each file (redacted, then Bates-stamped, then original) and can download documents individually.
- Sharing with co-counsel or experts - Grant View access to relevant tags so outside counsel or expert witnesses can review materials. Grant Upload access to a designated tag so they can submit reports or supplemental documents.
- Receiving documents from third parties - Create a tag for incoming materials, invite the third party with Upload permission, and have them deposit files directly into your case.
Key characteristics
- No organization membership required - Invitees don't need to join your organization. They sign in with any account and access only the cases they've been invited to.
- Tag-level permissions - You control View and Upload access independently for each tag and each user.
- Simplified interface - Discovery users see a focused two-panel layout with tags, files, and a document viewer. No AI chat, no notes, no redaction tools.
- Unlimited free seats - There is no cost or limit for discovery user invitations.
- File version priority - The portal automatically serves the best version of each document: redacted versions appear first, then Bates-stamped versions, then originals.
What discovery portal users cannot do
Discovery users operate within a deliberately restricted set of capabilities. They can't access AI-powered chat or analysis tools, create or edit notes, apply or view redactions, modify case settings, create or manage tags, assign custodians, or view organization-level data. Their interactions are limited to viewing, downloading, and uploading files to tags where upload permission has been granted.
