Page Redaction

Last updated: 2026-03-23

Page redaction marks entire pages for redaction at once. When applied, the full page fills with solid black, permanently removing all content. It's the fastest way to redact pages that are entirely privileged or irrelevant to a production.

Selecting pages for full-page redaction

In redaction mode, select the page redaction tool from the toolbar. The viewer shows page numbers along the sidebar or thumbnail panel. Click any page number to mark that entire page as a pending redaction. A colored overlay appears on the page to show it's marked for full-page redaction.

Select multiple pages by clicking additional page numbers. Each click toggles between marked and unmarked, so if you accidentally mark a page, click it again to remove the marking. All marked pages appear in the annotation sidebar for review.

What happens when applied

When you click Apply, each marked page fills entirely with solid black. All text, images, headers, footers, and any other content on those pages is permanently removed. The pages stay in the document at their original positions, but their content is gone.

If the document has Bates numbers, the Bates stamps are automatically re-rendered in white text on the black page so they stay visible and readable. This keeps page numbering continuous in the production set even when entire pages are redacted.

Use cases for full-page redaction in litigation

Full-page redaction works best in these situations:

  • Entirely privileged pages - When a full page is covered by attorney-client privilege or work product doctrine protection, page redaction is faster than selecting text block by block.
  • Irrelevant pages - Pages that fall outside the scope of a production request but appear in an otherwise responsive document.
  • Duplicate or blank pages - Scanned documents sometimes include blank separator pages or duplicates that should not appear in the production.
  • Pages with dense sensitive content - When nearly every line on a page must be redacted, it's faster to redact the whole page at once.

Combining page redaction with other methods

Page redaction can be combined with text selection, box drawing, and keyword search on the same document. For example, redact three entirely privileged pages while also redacting specific names and phone numbers on the remaining pages. All pending redactions from every method apply together in a single step.
