The AI agent handles a wide range of document review tasks through natural language commands. From research across your case to applying redactions and Bates numbers, the agent helps you move faster through common review phases.

AI research and search

The AI agent searches across all documents in your case to find information, locate specific files, and answer complex questions. Whether you need to identify every document that mentions a particular contract clause or find all correspondence between two parties, the agent returns results with AI citations pointing to exact source documents and pages. Search by topic, by keyword, or by describing the type of content you need in plain language.

Search goes beyond simple keyword matches. The AI agent interprets the intent behind your questions and finds relevant passages even when the exact terms you used do not appear in the documents. This is especially useful for research tasks where you need to gather information about a topic rather than locate a specific phrase.

For targeted keyword searches, the AI agent also supports exact-match and case-insensitive options. Combine research questions with keyword searches in the same conversation to narrow results progressively. For more on research workflows, see AI research questions.

AI-powered reading and document analysis

The AI agent accesses every processed file in your case. It analyzes contracts, summarizes correspondence, compares documents side by side, and extractskey details such as dates, parties, obligations, and financial figures. When you need a quick summary of a long document or want to understand the relationship between multiple files, the AI agent can deliver that analysis quickly. Response times vary with document length and case size.

The AI agent works across all supported file types, including PDFs, emails, office documents, spreadsheets, and images with extracted text. Regardless of format, the agent treats each file as readable content and can reference specific pages or sections in its responses. Thismeans you do not need to open every file yourself. The agent reviews large volumes of documents and surfaces relevant information. Verify critical findings against the source material.

When the AI agent references document content, it includes AI citations with the specific file and page so you can verify the finding directly. This citation-backed approach keeps the agent's analysis traceable to its source material. General responses that do not reference specific documents may not include citations.

Redaction

The AI agent scans for sensitive content across your case documents and prepares redactions for your review. AI-based detection may not catch every instance, so human review is essential. All redactions require your approval before application, giving you full control over what gets redacted. The agent handles both targeted redactions (specific names or account numbers) and category-based redactions covering all instances of a particular information type like Social Security numbers, phone numbers, or email addresses.

When the AI agent identifies content to redact, it presents the proposed redactions for your review. You can accept, reject, or modify individual redactions before finalization. This review step is mandatory. The agent never applies redactions without your confirmation. Once approved, the redacted content is removed from the stamped version of the document while the original file stays untouched.

The AI agent processes redactions across multiple documents at once, making it practical to redact sensitive information from large document sets without reviewing each file individually. For details on manual redaction options, see Redaction.

Bates numbering

The AI agent applies Bates numbers to documents in your case, stamping each page with a sequential identifier for production and legal referencing. Number all files in the case, files within a specific tag, or a custom selection of documents. Theagent handles the numbering sequence automatically, giving every page a unique identifier without gaps or duplicates.

Bates numbers apply to stamped versions of your documents, leaving the originals unchanged. Once numbered, the stamped views display Bates identifiers on each page. The numbers then appear in productions, privilege logs, and other workflows that require consistent document identification.

For details on Bates numbering configuration options, including prefix, suffix, and starting number settings, see Bates numbering.

Tag management with the AI agent

The AI agent creates tags, assigns files to tags, and lists existing tags with their file counts. Tags are a core organizational layer in Hintyr, used to group documents into review sets, production groups, issue categories, or any custom classification your team needs. Managing tags through the AI agent lets you organize documents quickly without navigating menus or selection interfaces.

Assign multiple tags to a single document. The AI agent handles bulk tag assignments across groups of files that match specific criteria. For example, ask the agent to tag all emails from a particular sender or tag all documents that mention a specific topic. The AI agent identifies the matching files and applies the tag to each one.

Tags created through the AI agent are identical to tags created through the document browser. They appear in the Tags tab, work for filtering, and serve as the basis for production exports and Bates numbering scopes. For more on working with tags, see Tags.

Custodian management

The AI agent creates custodians and assigns documents to them. Custodian tracking ties each document to the person or entity responsible for it, which supports e-discovery compliance and production requirements. Set up custodians and associate files with them as part of your review workflow.

Assign custodians individually or in bulk. The AI agent also lists all custodians in a case with their document counts, giving you a quick overview of distribution across custodians. Use this to verify that all collected materials have proper attribution and to identify custodians with unusually large or small document volumes.

Custodians created through the AI agent integrate with the rest of the Hintyr platform. They appear in custodian filters, production metadata, and privilege log exports. For more on custodian workflows, see Custodians.

Privilege marking

The AI agent designates documents as attorney-client privilege, work product, or both. Mark individual files or groups of documents based on criteria you describe. Privilege designations track at the file level and carry through to production exports and privilege log generation, so privileged materials stay properly identified throughout your workflow.

The AI agent also lists all privileged documents in your case, broken down by privilege type. This gives you a quick audit of your privilege designations and helps confirm completeness before production. To change a designation, the agent can update or remove privilege markings on any file.

Privilege marking through the AI agent produces the same result as marking through the document browser. The two methods are interchangeable. Designations made through either approach appear everywhere in the platform.

Production exports

The AI agent creates production export packages from your case documents. Specify which documents to include by tag, custodian, or other criteria, and the agent generates the export. Completed packages are available for download in the Production Export dialog, where you can review contents and download the final package.

Production exports include stamped document versions with any applied Bates numbers and redactions. The export package follows the specifications you provide, including document ordering and metadata. This makes it straightforward to prepare formal productions without leaving the AI agent panel.

For more on production configuration and download options, see Productions.

Frequently asked questions

Can the AI agent handle multiple tasks at once?
The AI agent processes one request at a time per conversation. Send a new request as soon as the agent finishes its current response. The agent maintains context across messages, so you can chain related tasks together naturally.
What file types does the AI agent work with?
The AI agent works with all file types Hintyr supports, including PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, emails, images with extracted text, and more. Any processed file with extracted content is available to the AI agent.
Does the AI agent modify original files?
No. The AI agent never modifies your original files. Redaction and Bates numbering create stamped versions separate from the originals. Your uploaded files stay exactly as you uploaded them.
Can I undo AI agent actions?
Yes. Remove or change tags, custodian assignments, and privilege markings at any time through the AI agent or the document browser. Redactions require your approval before application. Bates numbering creates a separate stamped layer that does not affect the original document.
