Ask the AI agent plain-language questions about your case documents. It searches your files and gives you answers with clickable AI citations that link straight to the source pages.
Asking AI research questions
To get started, open the AI agent panel on the right side of the case page and type your question in the text input at the bottom. Ask anything you would ask a colleague reviewing the case. The AI agent understands plain language. No special syntax or query format is required.
After you press Enter, the AI agent starts searching through your case files. You'll see a progress indicator showing how many documents it's examining. It reviews documents and pulls out the passages most relevant to your question.
The AI agent keeps track of your conversation, so you can ask follow-up questions that build on earlier answers. For example, after asking about the key terms of a contract, you might follow up with "Were any of those terms modified in the 2024 amendment?" The agent uses the reference as additional context for its next search.
Example AI research questions
Here are a few examples of questions you can ask. They range from broad overviews to very specific lookups, and the agent handles both well:
- "What communications occurred between parties about the contract amendment?"
- "Summarize the key terms of the settlement agreement."
- "Find all references to the March 2024 incident."
- "What are the termination clauses in the MSA?"
- "List all parties mentioned in the correspondence."
The more specific your question, the more targeted the response. Including details like document types, date ranges, or party names helps the agent focus its search and give you more precise results.
Understanding AI citations in research results
Every response from the AI agent includes AI citations that point to the specific documents and pages behind the answer. They appear as clickable links right in the response text, showing the file name and page number. This lets you trace every claim back to the source material.
Click any AI citation to open the referenced document in the viewer at the exact page cited. From there, you can read the surrounding context, confirm the agent's interpretation, and continue your review without losing your place in the conversation.

Tips for better AI research results
The AI agent handles a wide range of question styles, but a few habits can help you get stronger results:
- Be specific - Instead of "Tell me about the contract," try "What are the indemnification obligations in the Master Services Agreement?"
- Reference document types - Mention emails, contracts, invoices, or other document types so the agent can narrow its search.
- Include date ranges - If you're looking for communications from a specific period, include the dates in your question.
- Use follow-up questions - Build on previous answers to dig deeper into a topic instead of starting over each time.
- Ask for summaries - For large document sets, ask the agent to summarize its findings before you dive into specifics.
Keep in mind that the AI agent searches across all documents in your case. If you're working with thousands of files, a focused question will get you faster, more relevant results than a broad one.
