Email Thread

Last updated: 2026-05-16

An email thread is a sequence of related emails connected by replies and forwards on the same conversation. Threads can branch when one recipient replies to an earlier message instead of the latest reply, producing more than one inclusive email in the same conversation.

How Hintyr identifies threads

Hintyr groups emails into threads based on the subject line (after stripping forwarding and reply prefixes), the participants, and the relationships among message identifiers stored in email headers. A branched thread can have two or more inclusive emails when a reply added unique content that the latest message did not include.

Email threading powers Hintyr's email thread deduplication feature, which suppresses redundant copies of the same conversation during review.
