A custodian acknowledgment is a custodian's confirmed receipt and understanding of a preservation notice. It creates an evidentiary record that the custodian saw the notice, understood the scope, and committed to preserving the listed materials.
Engagement states
Hintyr tracks how far each recipient has moved: pending (not sent yet), sent (the email went out), delivered (the recipient's mail server accepted it), engaged (the recipient opened the acknowledgment page), recognized (the recipient confirmed their identity), and acknowledged (the recipient submitted the attestation, or an attorney recorded it offline). Not delivered marks a notice that did not reach the recipient: the address was rejected, the recipient reported it as spam, the address was blocked, or the send failed. Recipients who have not acknowledged get automatic Reminder notices; reminders go only to the custodian.
For acknowledgments collected on paper, in person, or by phone, an attorney can record an offline acknowledgment using Tracking acknowledgments.
