The notes panel sits on the right side of every case page. Create notes, switch between them using tabs, drag to reorder, and manage everything through the menu button.

The case notes panel

The notes panel shares the right side of the case view with the AI agent. Toggle between the AI agent and your notes using the tabs at the top of the right panel. When you select the notes view, you'll see a tab bar for your open notes and the rich text editor below.

This layout lets you review a document in the center while taking notes on the right, without switching apps. The panel stays accessible as you move between documents, so your notes remain open and editable throughout your session.

Creating a new case note

Click the menu button in the notes panel and select either New Group Note or New Private Note. The new note opens in a fresh tab with a default title. Rename it any time.

When you visit a case for the first time, Hintyr creates a default note so you can start writing right away. After that, create additional notes through the menu. There's no set limit on the number of notes per case.

The note tab system

Each open note appears as a tab at the top of the notes panel. You can have multiple notes open at once and switch between them by clicking the tab. The active tab shows an underline indicator so you always know which note you're editing.

Each tab shows the note title and a type icon. A lock icon means private; a group icon means shared. If you have more tabs than fit in the visible area, scroll buttons appear at the edges of the tab bar.

To close a tab, hover over it and click the close button, or use the close button that's always visible on the active tab. Closing a tab doesn't delete the note. You can reopen it later from the notes list in the menu.

Drag to reorder note tabs

Rearrange your note tabs by dragging them. Click and hold any tab, then drag it to a new position. A visual indicator shows where the tab will land when you release. Group related notes together or put your most-used notes where they're easy to reach.

Your tab order is preserved between sessions. When you return to the case later, your notes will be in the same arrangement you left them.

Renaming case notes

Double-click any note tab to rename it. The title becomes an editable text field. Press Enter to confirm, or press Escape to cancel and keep the original title. Clicking outside the field also saves your change.

Descriptive titles make it easier to find the right note when you have several open. Try naming notes after their topic, document, or review task, such as "Privilege Log," "Work Product - Contracts," or "Responsiveness Analysis."

Deleting case notes

To delete a note, open the menu and select the delete option. A confirmation dialog appears before the note is permanently removed, which helps guard against accidental deletion.

Closing a tab is not the same as deleting a note. Closing just hides the note from the tab bar; the note still exists and you can reopen it from the menu. Deleting removes the note permanently.

Managing case notes FAQ

There is no set limit. You can have as many group and private notes as you need within each case.
Can I reopen a case note after closing its tab?

Is my note tab order saved between review sessions?
Yes. Your tab order and open tabs are preserved, so you see the same layout when you return to the case.
Can I rename a note that someone else created?
