Multi-select lets you pick several documents at once with Ctrl+click or Shift+click. From there, apply bulk actions like tagging, custodian assignment, Bates stamping, or deletion to your entire selection. Every menu item shows a document count so you always know how many files you are about to change.
How to multi-select documents
You have two ways to multi-select documents in the document browser:
Ctrl+click (toggle individual files)
Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) and click each document you want. Each click toggles that file between selected and unselected, so you can cherry-pick from anywhere in the list. A highlight appears on each selected document to confirm your choice.
Shift+click (select a range)
Click the first document in your range, then hold Shift and click the last one. This selects everything between those two clicks at once. It is the fastest way to grab a block of consecutive documents.
You can also mix both methods. Use Shift+click to select a range, thenCtrl+click to add or remove individual files from that selection.
Bulk actions for multi-select document review
Once you select multiple documents, click the three-dot menu on any highlighted file to open the bulk actions menu. Each option shows the number of selected documents in parentheses (for example, "Download (5)") so you know exactly how many files you are affecting. Here are the actions available in multi-select mode:
- Download - Downloads all selected documents together.
- Bates Number - Opens the Bates stamping dialog and applies sequential numbers across selected documents in list order.
- Add to Tag - Assigns all selected documents to a review tag. Pick an existing tag or create a new one from the submenu.
- Assign to Custodian - Links all selected documents to a custodian. Pick an existing custodian or create a new one.
- Mark Privileged - Applies a privilege designation (Attorney-Client, Work Product, Both, or Remove Privilege) to all selected documents at once.
- Delete - Permanently deletes all selected documents after a confirmation dialog.
Single-document actions not available in multi-select
A few actions only work on one document at a time and do not appear when you have multiple files selected. These require opening or editing a single file:
- View - Opens the document in the document viewer.
- Document Details - Displays metadata and properties for one document.
- Prepare for Redaction - Opens the redaction editor for a single file.
- Rename - Changes the display name of a single document.
- Revert - Rolls back a document to its previous version.
- Document Note - Creates or opens a work product note for a single document.
To use any of these, clear your selection first, then open the file actions menu on the document you want to work with.
How to clear a multi-select selection
You can deselect all documents and go back to normal browsing in two ways:
- Escape key - Press Escape to clear the entire selection instantly.
- Click outside - Click anywhere outside the document browser panel to deselect all documents.
