The TAR validation Grading Panel

When you start or continue a validation test, the Grading Panel takes over the standard left panel. It shows the validation name at the top, a list of sampled documents in the middle, and a progress bar at the bottom. The panel stays open until you close it or leave the page.

Grading documents for responsiveness

Each row in the table represents one sampled document. The File Name column shows the document name and date. The Responsiveness column contains a dropdown where you select your grade:

  • Responsive - The document is relevant and belongs in the responsive set. The row turns green after grading.
  • Not Responsive - The document isn't relevant. The row turns red after grading.

Double-click a row to open the document in the viewer before grading. You can also right-click a row to access additional file actions through the context menu.

TAR validation statistics bar

Above the document table, a statistics bar shows live metrics that update as you grade. What you see depends on which validation types are included:

  • TAR 1.0 section - Shows precision, recall, and the number of graded samples out of the total (for example, 42/50).
  • TAR 2.0 section - Shows elusion rate, precision, recall, and the graded/total count. After all samples are graded, this section also indicates whether the validation passed against your target recall.

These statistics are visible to case members but hidden from discovery users, who see only the grading table.

Grading progress indicator

A progress bar at the bottom of the panel shows overall grading completion as a percentage across both L1 and L2 samples. When it reaches 100%, the validation is complete.

Grading Panel navigation controls

The panel header contains three controls:

  • Back arrow - Returns to the TAR Validation dialog so you can switch to a different validation or create a new one.
  • Export button - Downloads the current statistics as a spreadsheet file. This is useful for reporting or sharing results with your team. Only visible to case members (not discovery users).
  • Close button - Closes the Grading Panel and returns to the normal left panel. Your progress is saved automatically and you can resume later from the Continue tab.
